Day 1: Greeting at the airport and transfer to the Best Western Irazu where you stay the first night. At the requested time we will deliver the 4x4 all terrain vehicle to travel all over Costa Rica.
Day 2: Put yourself in route to Monteverde taking the Interamerican Highway (approx. 4 hours driving). You will stay one night at El Establo. A rustic complex of comfortable cabins, located few minutes away from the Monteverde Cloudforest Reserve.
Day 3: This will be a long adventure day driving a 4x4, heading the Tenorio Volcano. The trip will begin driving 40 kilometers over the edge of the Tilaran Mountain Range with magnificent views of the Arenal Lake & Volcano. When you arrive at Tilaran (1 hour aprox.) take the road that skirts the lake to Tierras Morenas. Then continue by a picturesque open road, through the mountain range with spectacular views of the Tenorio and the Miravalles Volcanos, passing right next to the eolic energy towers until you reach the main road that goes to Upala (50 kms. - 1 hour aprox).
Keep driving up to the town of Bijagua and continue to The Heliconia Lodge and Biological Reserve (20 mins.). Located just in the foothill of Tenorio Volcano, here you will stay the following 2 nights. Admire the spectacular forest, the nice view of the Miravalles Volcano, the plains of Guatuso, the Lake of Nicaragua, the Solentiname Islands and the Ometepe Volcano.
Day 4: The Heliconia Lodge and Biological Reserve is the gateway to discover to some of the hidden treasures of Costa Rica. Walk through the trails of the biological reserve or take a horseback riding up to the hot spring waters and mud pots. Visit the scientific center and admire the collection of mushrooms and insects or take the opportunity to go to the waterfalls of “Rio Celeste”. A blue river in which will make you feel like in a giant swimming pool in the middle of the forest. (3 hours of a horseback riding or 1 hour driving a car, and a 45 minutes of walk). You have never seen a similar scenario.
Day 5: A long day driving, but full of experiences (4-5 hours). Drive to the town of Cañas (30 minutes), heading Manuel Antonio (3 hours), through the Interamerican Highway. On the way you can stop at the Carara Biological Reserve, the popular Jaco Beach, continuing to Quepos and then to Savegre (30 minutes).
The next two nights you will staying at El Silencio Lodge and Biological Reserve, bordering the banks of the Savegre river. A naturalist hospitable lodge surrounded by an exuberant forest and a huge African Oil palm tree plantation. The lodge is managed by 70 families, grouped in a cooperative that are developing the plantation a reforestation and environmental project of 6000 acres.
Day 6: The strategic location of the El Silencio Lodge and Biological Reserve allows you to visit the Manuel Antonio National Park located at 45 minutes to the north. Playa Dominical is only 30 minutes to the south or just stay at the Lodge and enjoy walking through the trails of the reserve, take a horseback riding tour around the mountain, visit the wildlife nursery or take a ride to the Savegre River and swim in it’s crystalline waters.
Day 7: To conclude this marvelous adventure, you can have a relaxing day at Playa Jaco only at 1 ½ hour away from Savegre, staying at the Arenal Pacific Hotel, a cozy beach front hotel. Or continue to the mountains and visit San Gerardo de Dota (2 ½ hours) staying at Savegre Lodge. A mountain lodge nestled in the middle of a cloud forest, next to the mountains where the Savegre River originates and habitat of the Quetzal, sacred bird of “Los Mayas” and considered the most beautiful of the new tropics.
Day 8: Departure to the airport (2 hours driving from any of the two hotels), to take the fly back home or to take an extension to the beach and enjoy more days in Costa Rica. The car has to be return at the airport.
