Setting
The privately owned and maintained rain forest of Chachagua is contiguous to the International Children's Rain Forest, which in turn is neighbor to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.
Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel is surrounded by trails where the visitor can appreciate the great variety of species of birds such as the blue-gray tanager, the passerinii, red-legged honey-creeper, white-crowned flycatcher, these among other one hundred species. Amongst the mammals of the area, you can find the northern raccoon, the white nosed coati, the howler monkey and larger species such as the ocelot, the jaguar and two species of sloths.
Activities
Among the many still common species of animals that are residents of the forest at Chachagua the interested observer will likely see white-faced monkeys, keel-billed toucans, blue morpho butterflies, bright red poison-dart frogs, and much, much more.
Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel is more than just another nature hotel. Certainly the plants and animals that can be encountered along the forest trails will thrill even the most ardent nature lover. But Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel offers much more. Part of the property is still maintained as a working ranch and visitors to Chachagua will be able to see a variety of fruits and vegetables such as ineapple, papaya, manioc, squashes, and black beans growing right on the farm. Beef, poultry, eggs, milk, and cheese are all also produced on the ranch. Who knows, you might even pick part of your own breakfast!
Cattle and horses are part of the ranch, too. Thus the restaurant has been designed overlooking a riding ring so that the guests can enjoy their morning coffee while admiring expert horsemen putting the local mounts through their paces. And of course, horses are available for guest who wish to see the scenic surroundings from the vantage point of a saddle.
Dendrology lovers will be delighted to find giants on the brink of extinction; massive specimens of the mahogany tree, the mountain almond (terminalia oblonga), the laurel tree and other species to name a few, commonly abound.
Also, we invite to visit our new butterfly and orchird farm.
